Canoe Campout

Dates:

October 3rd - 4th , 1 Nights

Location

Big Island (near Scottsville VA)

No road address. The only way to get there is by river.

Activity:

We will be traveling 12 miles down the James River, through a few Class 1 rapids. Scouts must have passed at least the beginner level of the BSA swim test. Life Jackets and Canoes will be provided. We will meet with scouts attending the canoe trip during meeting time, to help prepare for the campout.

Drop Off:

Saturday 10/3 at 8am (Eat Breakfast in advance)

at Floor & Decor Parking Lot

Pick Up:

Sunday 12 PM at Hobby Lobby Parking Lot
ETA will be sent once we leave camp via email

Food:

Backpack style cooking. Each scout will be responsible for their own food.

Water:

Bring 2 full water bottles for personal use and 2 Additional Gallons for Troop Use.

Gear:

Standard Campout Gear including tent, daypack, Scouting Essentials, and Scout Handbook. Dry Bags or waterproof 5 gallon buckets or Construction trashbags to keep your gear dry.

Attire:

Activity Uniform - Class “B” to wear to the river and other activity appropriate clothing for remainder of event

Bathing Suit or clothes you don’t mind getting wet, as we will be on the river and water shoes

Medication:

Medications will be turned in to the medical officer at drop off. Medications should have specific instructions on how to administer and dosage.

Medical Forms:

Medical forms expire after 12 months. You will be notified if your form is out of date. You will also be given instructions where to turn in a new form before the event.

Travel Waivers:

If you have not filled out the Annual travel waiver, you will be asked to do it when you sign up for the campout.
